Geeky stuff ahead. For a while now, I've been using Installous to get all the apps for my phone. It's fun because if you do it the normal way (through the iTunes store), you'd have to go through the hassle of credit cards and payment stuff like that. But with Installous, you just have to download and install the apps. Because everything's free on Installous. You get the paid apps for free. It doesn't really seem like such a cool thing when you're using it and taking it for granted, but when you think about how, someone in the world is paying $50 for an app that you're getting for free, it's neat. So to turn this into a story, I upgraded my iPhone firmware a couple of weeks back. Before this, I was using 3.0 but this guy gave me his phone with 3.1.2 firmware to take home and he just said that it was awesome. Michael P. Downing, deputy chief of the LAPD's Counter-Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau, was in Tel Aviv on Monday and Tuesday to take part in the Safe City Solutions Conference, which attracted security experts from around the world to examine ways of tackling violent urban crime and terrorism.
